The Bill Bruce adventure books were written by Major Henry Arnold of the US Army Air Corps. In the first book Bill and his friends visit an army prison island and explore an old fort. Later they meet, help, and even fly with some of the early aviators. The first book about the pioneer aviators is partially autobiographical since Arnold was personally taught to fly by one of the Wright brothers and was one of the first three trained military pilots in the US Air Corps. He went on to write a total of six Bill Bruce adventure stories and his Autobiography "Global Mission" Arnold is considered the "Father of the US Air Force" and was the only person to have achieved the rank of five-star general in both the US Army and the US Air Force.
